Settling error

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010782

An error in spectrophotometric measurement caused by not allowing enough time for the instrument reading to settle before it is taken, or by scanning an absorption peak too rapidly for the detector and readout to follow. The reading then lags behind the true absorbance, which distorts the height and shape of the peak. It is avoided by waiting for a steady reading or by lowering the scan speed.
