Fluorescence error

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004518

An error in absorption measurements that occurs when the sample fluoresces under the incident beam and the emitted light adds to the transmitted radiation reaching the detector. The apparent transmittance is raised, so the measured absorbance, and the concentration derived from it, come out too low. The error is largest when the detector sits close to the sample and collects a wide angle of the emitted light.
