Spectral bandwidth error

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011123

The deviation in absorbance or transmittance measurements caused by the finite width of the spectral band passed by a monochromator, rather than an infinitely narrow wavelength. This error arises because the instrument measures an average of absorbance over a range of wavelengths, not at a single point. It becomes more pronounced when the spectral bandwidth is a substantial fraction of the absorption band's natural width.
