Polarization error

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009081

An inaccuracy in spectrophotometric measurements that arises when the incident light is partially polarized and the sample or optical components exhibit anisotropic absorption. This can lead to deviations from Beer's Law, particularly in samples with oriented molecules or when using grating monochromators. The error can be minimized by using depolarizers or by orienting the sample appropriately.
