Specimen
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011117
A portion deliberately drawn from a changing system, such as a flowing stream or a blood draw, that is taken to stand for the parent material at the moment of collection. It is tied to a point in time and cannot be taken again, so its sampling error cannot be separated from the error in the property being estimated. It can be treated as a special kind of sample that varies over time rather than over position.
