Stopped-flow cell

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013596

A device for studying the kinetics of fast chemical reactions in solution by rapidly mixing two or more reactants and then abruptly stopping the flow. The reaction progress within the stationary mixture is then monitored over time, usually by spectroscopic methods like absorption or fluorescence. The dead time of the instrument, the period between mixing and the first observation, is a key performance characteristic and is on the order of milliseconds.
