Wash out time

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012640

The time required for the signal from a sample in a continuous flow system to decrease to a specified fraction of its steady-state value after the sample introduction is stopped. This parameter is particularly relevant in techniques like inductively coupled plasma spectrometry and flow injection analysis. It characterizes the speed at which the system is cleared of the previous sample, affecting sample throughput.
