Wood lamp
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012713
A source of long-wave ultraviolet radiation, often produced by a mercury-vapor lamp equipped with a special filter made of nickel-oxide-doped glass. This filter, known as Wood's glass, blocks most visible light while transmitting a band of UV light with a peak wavelength around 365 nanometers. It is used in photochemistry and to observe fluorescence in materials for analytical or diagnostic purposes.
