Work

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013701

The energy transferred when a force acts over a distance, resulting in a change in the system's volume or position against an external pressure. In chemistry, this often involves expansion or compression of gases, or electrical work in electrochemical cells. Work is a path function, meaning its value depends on the specific process by which the change occurs, and is measured in joules (J).
