Surface work
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011669
The work required to increase the surface area of a phase by a differential amount, against the forces of surface tension. This energy input is stored as surface free energy within the system. It is directly proportional to the change in surface area and the surface tension of the interface.
