Zero point of scale
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012801
The reading of a measuring instrument when the quantity being measured has a value of zero. This point serves as the fundamental reference for all other measurements made with the instrument. For a weighing instrument like an analytical balance, the zero point is the reading observed when no load is on the pan; this value is subtracted from subsequent readings to determine the mass of an object.
