MIPS
Term · Computing and IT · MLC-T-CMP-000760
A measure of a processor's raw speed, representing the number of millions of instructions per second that a central processing unit (CPU) can execute. It is calculated by dividing the number of instructions executed in a program by the execution time and then by one million. Because the complexity of instructions varies between different processor architectures, MIPS is not a reliable metric for comparing performance across dissimilar systems, such as a RISC versus a CISC processor.
