Multitasking

The ability of an operating system to execute multiple tasks or processes concurrently, giving the appearance that they are running simultaneously. This is achieved by rapidly switching the central processing unit's attention between different tasks, a technique known as time-sharing. Modern operating systems employ preemptive multitasking, where the OS controls task switching.
