Advance angle
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-000104
The angular measurement in a reciprocating engine's ignition timing, representing how many degrees of crankshaft rotation before a piston reaches top dead center that the spark plug fires. This early firing provides sufficient time for the fuel-air mixture to combust and build pressure, pushing the piston down on the power stroke. The specific advance angle is determined by engine speed and load, with magnetos or electronic ignition systems adjusting it for performance.
