Attenuate
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-000307
To reduce the force, effect, or value of a signal, energy, or substance as it passes through a medium. In manufacturing, this can involve decreasing the amplitude of an electrical signal, reducing the intensity of radiation for curing or inspection, or lessening the concentration of a chemical in a solution. The degree of attenuation is often quantified in decibels (dB) for signals or by an absorption coefficient for radiation.
