Axle-hung

Describing a mounting arrangement for a traction motor or gearbox in which the component is directly supported by the vehicle's axle. One side of the motor casing is typically secured to the axle, while the other side is suspended from the vehicle's frame or bogie. This configuration is common in railway locomotives and streetcars, where it transmits torque directly to the wheels.
