Beetle bank
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-000507
A raised, grassy strip of land, often planted with tussock-forming grasses like cocksfoot, created within or at the edge of an agricultural field. It provides an overwintering habitat for predatory insects, such as ground beetles and spiders, which emerge in the spring to feed on crop pests. A beetle bank is a form of conservation biological control, reducing the need for chemical pesticides.
