Bottoming
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-000714
A preliminary dyeing process that applies a uniform base color, or ground, to a textile before it is overprinted with a pattern. This initial layer of dye covers the entire fabric surface, providing the background color that will be visible in the unprinted areas of the final design. The bottoming color must be compatible with the subsequent print pastes and be able to withstand the final fixation processes, such as steaming or heat setting.
