Cold-shut

A casting defect characterized by a discontinuity or lap on the surface of a cast metal part, formed when two streams of molten metal flow together but fail to fuse completely. This imperfection results from insufficient fluidity or premature cooling of the metal. Cold shuts reduce the structural integrity and aesthetic quality of the casting.
