Corona
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-001356
A luminous discharge that occurs when the electric field strength around a conductor in a gas, such as air, exceeds a certain threshold but is insufficient to cause a complete breakdown or arc. This phenomenon is often visible as a faint glow and is accompanied by a hissing sound and the production of ozone. Corona discharge can lead to power loss and electromagnetic interference in high-voltage transmission lines.
