Detector bar
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-001675
A mechanical device formerly used at railway switches and crossings to prevent the movement of points while a train was occupying the track. It consisted of a long, thin bar positioned alongside the rail that would be depressed by the wheels of a passing train, mechanically locking the switch. Modern railway signaling systems have largely replaced detector bars with track circuits and axle counters.
