Dilving
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-001725
A historical method of washing and separating ore, especially tin ore, using a hand-held sieve in a tub or stream of water. The operator imparts a specific circular and tossing motion to the sieve, causing the heavier ore particles to settle at the bottom while lighter waste material is washed away. This technique was a form of manual gravity concentration used to produce a cleaner ore concentrate before smelting.
