Hutch
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-002936
A compartment in a mineral jig or similar gravity separation device where the densest, highest-grade mineral particles accumulate after being separated from lighter gangue material. As water pulsates through a bed of crushed ore, the heavy concentrate settles through a screen or gate into the hutch at the bottom of the machine. This collected concentrate is then periodically discharged through a spigot or valve for further processing or collection.
