The conductor that provides an electrical connection from an elevated component, such as an antenna or lightning rod, down to ground-level equipment or a grounding system. In lightning protection systems, it is the heavy-gauge wire that carries the massive current of a lightning strike safely from the air terminal to the earth electrode. The National Fire Protection Association standard NFPA 780 specifies requirements for the material, size, and routing of these conductors.
