Duplex

Describing a microstructure in metals that consists of two distinct phases, often with different crystal structures or compositions. This dual-phase arrangement imparts a combination of properties, such as high strength and corrosion resistance, that neither phase possesses alone. Duplex stainless steels, for example, contain both ferrite and austenite phases.
