Spheroidize
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-005518
To heat treat steel to produce a microstructure where the cementite (iron carbide) forms into spherical particles within a ferrite matrix. This process improves the machinability and ductility of high-carbon steels by reducing hardness and brittleness. Spheroidization is typically achieved by prolonged heating just below the lower critical temperature.
