Iron carbide

A hard, brittle ceramic compound of iron and carbon with the chemical formula Fe3C, also known as cementite. It is a primary constituent in steels and cast irons, contributing significantly to their hardness and wear resistance. Iron carbide contains 6.67% carbon by weight and is a key component of pearlite, a lamellar microstructure formed by the slow cooling of austenite.
