Ferric carbide

An iron carbide compound with the chemical formula Fe3C, also known as cementite, which is a hard and brittle constituent found in many ferrous alloys. It forms when carbon atoms combine with iron atoms during the cooling of steel or cast iron. The presence and distribution of ferric carbide significantly influence the mechanical properties of these materials, such as hardness and strength.
