Sorbitization
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-005471
A heat treatment process applied to steel to produce a microstructure known as sorbite. This involves heating the steel to an austenitic temperature, then cooling it at a rate that is slower than quenching but faster than annealing. The resulting sorbitic structure consists of fine lamellae of ferrite and cementite, distinct from the coarser pearlite or the acicular bainite.
