Quench

To rapidly cool a heated metal part to alter its microstructure and mechanical properties. This process involves immersing the hot metal in a liquid medium such as water, oil, or a polymer solution, or exposing it to a gas stream. Quenching is a fundamental step in heat treatment, particularly for hardening steels by forming martensite.
