Squelch

Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-005572

A circuit function in radio receivers that suppresses audio output when the incoming signal strength falls below a predetermined threshold, thereby eliminating annoying background noise or static. It allows the receiver to remain silent until a sufficiently strong and clear signal is detected. Squelch controls are common in two-way radios, walkie-talkies, and CB radios.
