Squegging
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-005571
A form of self-oscillation in an amplifier or oscillator circuit where the primary high-frequency oscillation is repeatedly started and stopped at a lower, audible or sub-audible rate. This parasitic behavior occurs when the amplitude of the main oscillation builds up to a point where it changes the DC bias conditions of the active device, cutting off the oscillation until the bias recovers. The resulting output is a series of bursts of the high-frequency signal, which can produce a squawking or motorboating sound in audio equipment.
