ESR
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-002082
The total internal resistance of a capacitor at a specific frequency, expressed in ohms. This value, the equivalent series resistance, represents the combination of the dielectric's resistance, plate material resistance, and terminal lead resistance. A low ESR is desirable in high-frequency applications, such as in power supply smoothing capacitors, as a high value leads to energy loss as heat and reduced capacitor performance.
