GBIC

A hot-swappable transceiver module, the Gigabit Interface Converter, that plugs into a slot on a network switch or router and links the port to a fiber optic or copper cable. It converts electrical signals to optical signals and back. GBIC modules are physically larger than their successor, the SFP, and are described in the SFF-8053 specification.
