Glan, Foucault prism

Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-002580

A type of polarizing prism constructed from two right-angle prisms of calcite, separated by an air gap. It transmits one polarization state while reflecting the other, producing highly polarized light. The Foucault variant uses an air gap, while the Glan-Thompson prism uses optical cement between the calcite components.
