Heatshield

A protective barrier designed to dissipate or reflect thermal energy away from a spacecraft or its components during atmospheric re-entry or exposure to extreme temperatures. This component prevents overheating and structural damage to the vehicle. It often consists of ablative materials that char and erode, carrying heat away from the protected surface.
