Heckle

To separate and straighten bast fibers, such as flax or hemp, using a tool with sharp, pointed teeth. This process removes short, tangled fibers and impurities, preparing the longer fibers for spinning into yarn. The heckling comb typically consists of a bed of steel pins set into a wooden base.
