Hot spot

A localized area on equipment or within a structure that has a significantly higher temperature than its surroundings, indicating a potential failure or hazard. These areas can result from issues like excessive electrical resistance, friction, insulation breakdown, or exothermic chemical reactions. Infrared thermography is the primary non-contact method used to detect and map hot spots on machinery, electrical panels, and process vessels before a failure occurs.
