Hotbox

An overheated journal bearing on a railway axle, caused by friction and insufficient lubrication. This condition generates excessive heat, which can lead to bearing failure and potential derailment if undetected. Modern trains employ hotbox detectors along the track to identify and alert crews to such anomalies.
