Kármán line

Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-003153

An internationally recognized boundary that defines the edge of space, situated 100 kilometers (62 miles) above Earth's mean sea level. Above this altitude, the atmosphere becomes too thin to support aerodynamic flight, requiring spacecraft to rely on rocket propulsion for control. This line is named after Theodore von Kármán, who calculated the altitude at which atmospheric lift becomes negligible.
