Sounding rocket

An unguided rocket designed to carry scientific instruments on a suborbital flight to perform experiments and take measurements in the upper atmosphere or space. These rockets provide a cost-effective way to conduct research at altitudes between those reachable by balloons and orbital spacecraft.
