MECO
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-007095
An acronym for Main Engine Cutoff, the event during a rocket launch when the vehicle's primary, first-stage engines are shut down. This occurs after the rocket has consumed most of its first-stage propellant and reached a specific altitude and velocity. Following MECO, the spent first stage typically separates from the upper stages, which then ignite their own engines to continue the ascent into orbit.
