An abbreviation for Sustainer Engine Cutoff, the event during a rocket's ascent when its main, long-duration engine shuts down. This occurs after the vehicle has reached the desired velocity or altitude, just before payload separation or the ignition of an upper stage. The exact timing of SECO is a predetermined point in the flight plan, but it can be commanded earlier or later by the guidance system to correct the trajectory.
