Nanovolt
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-007125
A unit of electric potential equal to one billionth (10^-9) of a volt. Signals of this size arise in thermoelectric effects, in low-temperature sensors and as the voltage noise of precision amplifiers, and measuring them requires nanovoltmeters or low-noise amplifiers with careful shielding. Brain activity recorded by electroencephalography is much larger, at tens of microvolts.
