Pellicle
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-004213
A thin, transparent membrane or film used in optical systems to protect sensitive surfaces or to act as a beam splitter. It consists of a stretched polymer film, often nitrocellulose or Mylar, mounted on a frame. Pellicles are employed in lithography to prevent dust from reaching photomasks and in interferometry as non-absorbing beam splitters due to their minimal thickness.
