Phonic wheel

A rotating disc with teeth or slots that, when combined with an electromagnetic pickup, generates electrical pulses at a frequency proportional to its rotational speed. This device was historically used in early electronic organs and speed control systems. It functions as a frequency generator or a speed sensor.
