Pulse

A discrete electrical signal or contact closure output from a utility meter that corresponds to a specific quantity of consumed energy or fluid. Metering devices for electricity, gas, or water are configured to generate a pulse for each unit that passes, such as one pulse per kilowatt-hour or per ten gallons. These signals are collected by data loggers or energy management systems for purposes of monitoring consumption, load profiling, and billing verification.
