Rent's rule
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-004781
An empirical rule in integrated circuit design that describes the relationship between the number of external connections (pins) of a logic block and the number of gates within that block. It states that the number of terminals is proportional to the number of gates raised to a power, known as Rent's exponent. This rule is used for estimating wiring complexity and partitioning in very large scale integration (VLSI) design.
