South pole
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-005480
The end of a magnet or electromagnet from which magnetic field lines are conventionally considered to enter, attracting the north pole of another magnet. In the context of the Earth's magnetic field, the geomagnetic South Pole is near the geographic North Pole, where a compass's north-seeking pole points. This convention is based on the behavior of compasses, where the north pole of the needle points towards the Earth's magnetic north.
