Dip
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-001733
The downward angle of the Earth's magnetic field relative to the horizontal plane at any point on the surface. This magnetic inclination is zero at the magnetic equator and increases to 90 degrees (straight down) at the magnetic north pole. A magnetic compass is affected by this phenomenon, causing the needle to tilt, which requires compensation in aircraft instrumentation for accurate navigation.
